My story

Like many others, I came to work in the interior design field in a roundabout way. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in public relations and married my husband shortly afterward. We relocated for a year before moving back to Raleigh. During these couple of years I had the opportunity to start my own business doing PR work while also pursuing training in interior design.

While completing the certificate program in interior design from the New York Institute of Art & Design, I began working at a to-the-trade designer showroom. A couple years later I joined a veteran Raleigh designer, Brenda Bateman, as her design associate. My PR business has morphed into Kelsey Lee Interiors, and I continue to work with Brenda on a broad range of projects, from one-room residential makeovers to large-scale commercial design.

My husband Jon and I completed an addition to our small 1940s home in the Five Points neighborhood several years ago and are now using every square inch of it with our two little boys and golden retriever. You can often find us down the street at Roanoke Park with our boys or walking the neighborhood, visiting the train tracks and watching construction vehicles work!
